Easy, At-Home Skincare Routine To Reset + Feel Good This Summer

Easy, At-Home Skincare Routine To Reset + Feel Good This Summer

Summertime is coming: The sun is finally peeking out from behind those clouds, and the temperatures are slowly climbing out of the sad trenches of post-holiday sweater weather. That’s right, I said it: I don’t want to wear a jacket after Christmas. Let’s keep things moving right along to springtime, sun dresses, picnics, and patio aperitifs.

Let’s get this party started.

But there are downsides to warmer weather, particularly as it pertains to your skin. But don’t worry, you don’t have to let summertime sadness leave your skin dry and dull. Try these four easy at-home skincare steps to keep your face feeling fresh all beach season long.

Three-Ingredient DIY Face Mask

For a quick pick-me-up without an expensive trip to the facial spa, try a little at-home beauty mask. This viral Korean beauty hack is so simple, it’s almost too good to be true — almost.

Chia seeds are rich in omega-3 fatty acids and, when wet, they absorb around 12 times their weight in liquid, creating a moisture-rich gelatin-like substance that easily lends itself to spreading on surfaces. Honey, another popular homemade face mask ingredient, makes an appearance here, adding even more richness to the texture.

Just soak the chia seeds in water for 10-15 minutes, add honey, and viola! You’ve got an ultra-simple hydrating face mask that will leave your skin feeling fresh and supple.

  • 2 tablespoons of Chia seeds
  • ¼ cup Water
  • 1 tablespoon of Honey

Some versions of this face mask suggest using ingredients like milk or lemon. We omitted those here for a couple of important reasons.

First, around 65-68% of humans display some sensitivity to lactose. Please trust us, even if you drink milk in your coffee every day, it is still possible that you are among that majority of people. And milk hives are not cute once they hit your face.

Secondly, citric acid, found in lemon juice (obviously), can be an irritant that can flare up skin conditions like eczema and even make you sunburn faster, which is not a thing you want to worry about when you’re heading to the beach.

So, stick to those three little ingredients above and your face will thank you.

No More Razor Bumps

Dreaming of showing off your smooth legs by the pool but dreading the hassle of shaving? Some lucky folks have no problem getting a smooth shave with a drugstore razor and some shaving cream, but for others, it can be a bumpy ride (if you’ll pardon the pun).

Wax is expensive and time-consuming and requires you grow those hairs out a bit so there’s something for the wax and strips to latch onto. So, that’s annoying.

Laser hair removal is lasting and effective, but, girl, in this economy? We still have to pay for gas.

That’s where IPL treatments come in. Products like our LumiSilk hair remover use strong pulses of light to bamboozle your follicles into thinking they’re in the resting phase. Think of it as the Men In Black neuralyzer for your leg hairs, armpit hairs, whichever hairs are bumming you out this summer.

Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen

Sunscreen is the most important age-fighting product in your cabinet. There is not a close second. If you only do one thing this year to protect your helpless little skin cells, let it be this! Use our SPF 40 Daily Facial Sunscreen, or use whatever sunscreen you like that you have lying around.

But use sunscreen. There’s even a song about it, lest you had forgotten.

Every day. Use it. Go put it on right now. I’ll wait.

Boost Your Vitamin C

Vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that is essential for collagen synthesis in the body and necessary for wound healing. Getting enough vitamin C in your diet also provides another level of photo-protection, acting as extra sunscreen from the inside (you still have to wear sunscreen, kids).

Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, vitamin C can also support you as you manage inflammatory skin conditions like rosacea.

Supplementing vitamin C orally has been shown to be an effective way to deliver vitamin C to the skin. Fortunately for you, we have you covered with RenewGlow, a biotin supplement and multivitamin that is awesome for skin, hair, and nail health.
